you get a sub, a thumbs up and a big ass thank you!!! just put the second one on and boom gas was flowing. you are a rock star take 100 out of petty cash and treat yourself.
Thank you for an excellent video . Kudos to you . :) I can do it to too.
You got a Julian torque wrench at work there in the '70s and had a good time repairing those torque wrenches in Anaheim, California
My starter struggles to move the engine and there is a knocking sound and end of each piston turn. Any ideas?
9 years later and this video is still saving lawn mowers everyday, thanks
Just cut the belt dont waste your time to remove great video
Jeff, can I try to start up my pressure washer with out water hooked up, if it starts shut it off in 30 seconds or so??
Those old ford pickup are hard to beat 😊😊😊
I would spray the gasket with aluminum paint 😊😊 That’s what dad did back in the 60 s
There’s lots of used parts on eBay for theses old mowers 😊 Some salted are a lot better and cheaper than others 😊
Ooops, might be rust? I need to learn and put some oooommph! behind my style! Just worry about breakage! sheesh
Came back to observe video again regarding fastening of the back plate. He says only 4 side bolts hold it on. Loosened them, plate doesn't budge. Can't get eye on what is holding it in video. Wanted off for sake of cleaning, and observation. Why when you do it, it never pans out as easy as the example you watch?? Screw back cover! Moving forward, let's see how much more Murphy messes with this project. He's been quite active. Course, also rebuilding deck, oil and tune up. Next steering. Is Crafty DLT3000. 2003 if I remember right? Been very good to me!
Too complicated for the average guy. Approximately how much would it cost to have a shop do it please?
I did exactly what you said and it worked. Thank you for your help.
I think I have 15/20 good use coils and I will never use them all 😊

All you have to do is be sure when adjusting each valve that whichever one your adjusting you make sure the rocker is on the base circle of the cam lobe .. Simply put you want the rocker resting on the opposite side of the lobe where there is no lifting action and completely off the ramps which is the only area you would expect to have any clearance so the valves can seat .. Notice on the Honda there is only one lobe to operate both the intake and exhaust valves .
Sorry but not a good video for a DIY situation. Need to be more direct and accurate in your presentation to leave a feeling of you know what you are doing for those wanting to follow your direction.
Thanks for the tips!
Great video. Easy to follow. Worked great. Thank you!
Glad it helped!
That is a fine American made tap and die set.
Good eye. I love this set. I bought it from a very old man retired machinist at his garage sale 20 years ago! Built to last!.
I expected some karen to pop out and tell you youre not allowed to drive on the streets. 😁😁😁
I have fixed all of my neighbors lawnmowers so they tolerate me pretty well...LOL
I know this is an old video. However, if you could, would, possibly help me find the model number to that mower!. I have that exact one and can't find the model number to order the belt. Thanks!
that is pretty tough. You will want the model # off of the deck not off of the engine.
Found a belt ! It took three trys. Thanks for your videos!
There is a spring on my machine that is attached to one end of the self propelled mechanism but the other end is not attached to anything. Any idea where it goes to?
Not sure, check for a hole in the metal deck near it. I believe that spring provides tension to keep the belt tight. OR it may be for the cable actuator arm return spring for the self propel engagement..
@@JeffsLittleEngineService I figured it out. However the drive transmission is bad. I just ordered a used one to replaced it.
This worked! Followed almost exactly and it fired the first pull. Thank you
Glad it helped
They were taking a drill to start it
yes he was, super sketchy...
Me thinking back to hitting those bolts with an impact 👀👀👀👀👀👀😭😭😂😂
lol!
Who wouldv'e thought it. Nitrile glove rationing. One glove per video.
lol!
Wish they didn’t rivet down the starter mechanism. So much harder than it has to be.
I agree!
The 19hp Courage on my Husqvarna bit the dust ar around 300 hours. Put the same B&S Opposed engine as you did except it was a 20 hp. I have 2 mowers with Opposed 20hp on them. I love those engines.
my favorite Briggs engine.
Thank you, my man. It's good people like you that post videos like these for the common good of humaninty. Really, thank you.
Glad I could help!
Jeff, great video! I volunteer at our church to mow the 11,000 square feet lawn. The mower I've used the last 6 years suddenly wouldn't start. I looked for the obvious to no success. Called four shops and no one wanted to work on it. After watching your video and about 7 minutes of work the little mower that could... did! Thanks to you and UA-cam University.
Nice work. Thanks for watching!
GOOD VIDEO. THANKS. CONGRATS, SIR.
Thank you
Thanks man. I know this is a small problem, all things considered, but people like you make a difference
Glad to help, thanks for the nice comment!
Thank you....easy fix and she's back running😊
Good job!
This is not a field and brush mower! It is a trimmer mower !
LOL !
Just used the down and dirty method using a screw and it worked absolutely perfectly. Didn't have to go to Amazon for a balance cone and was done in about 12 minutes. Thank you!!!
carburetors for these things don't seem to be that expensive ($20-$30 including gaskets). Why not just replace the carb?
I have had problems with cheap carburetors. An original OEM Briggs carburetor for this is last time I checked about $100.00
When I reassembled everything the pull cord doesn't engage the engine (the cord is just pulling freely and retracting). Is there a trick to get the pull mechanism to engage with the engine? Mine is a Toro SR4, but the pull start mechanism looks identical to yours. Thanks for a great video.
There is a white plastic "pawl" thingy attatched to the rope pulley that is supposed to pop out when you pull the rope
Thanks a lot, and greatings from Germany 🖖🏼🇩🇪🇺🇸
Thank for watching friend!
Great video , I have a 16 horse Briggs Stratton twin there's vacuum on the engine i rebuild the pump as you showed ,. But it isn't sucking gas at all doesn't seem to have any vacuum leak's what is my next move i open for ideas thank you for your video
Make sure fuel line is not kinked or plugged. Make sure vacume tube/hose from engine to pump is not damaged. The float bowl should fill up with gas eventually when you try to start the engine the first time after servicing. It can take awhile you must try to start/turn for 30 seconds or so before the carb fills up with gas. Also, double check your work something may not be right.
I like that mid 80s Troy built pony you had there
Hey man I’m glad found you I got one mower just like yours can’t get it to start. I replaced carburetor, spark plug, ignition coil, pull starter, fresh oil. Couple day ago pull the engine apart and everything looks alright. Any advice?
try using starting fluid to see what happens and go from there. That can tell you if you have spark and compression if it tries to start. If it tries to start then dies it tells you that you have a fuel delivery problem or a carburetor is not working correctly. If you put a cheap carburetor on it, that may be the problem because cheap carburetors are often crap.
@@JeffsLittleEngineService thanks man
